Annual Reading Rainbow Young Writers and Illustrators Contest


Entry Dates: January 15th - March 31st

All entries must be postmarked by March 31, 2008 to be considered. Good Luck!


Children from kindergarten to third grade are encouraged to write and illustrate their own stories and enter them in the Fourteenth Annual Reading Rainbow Young Writers and Illustrators Contest. These stories will be judged locally and the winners submitted to the national contest.

How to Enter:

  2. Write your story!

  4. Mail your entry before March 31st.

The first 500 entrants will receive family passes to the Eric Carle Museum of Picture Book Art!

The Prizes:

Local Prizes

The top three winners in each grade level (Kindergarten-Third Grade) will receive a WGBY Reading Rainbow Contest Prize Package, their winning story posted on our website, and an invitation to an awards event to recognize local winners! 

The top three stories from each grade level will be selected and entered into the National Contest.

12 winners will receive Family Membership to the Eric Carle Museum of Picture Book Art. 

National Prizes

First Place: Laptop Computer
Second Place: Flat Panel TV and DVD Player
Third Place: MP3 Player

Each of the twelve national winners also receives Reading Rainbow library sets of 5 DVDs and books for their home, school and library.
