An American Family
AN AMERICAN FAMILY, a 12-hour documentary series, premiered in 1973; every week an audience of 10 million viewers watched the unfolding real-life drama of the William C. Loud family of Santa Barbara, California. This program is a rebroadcast of episode two, in which Pat Loud visits her son Lance in New York City, where he is living. "TV Guide" recently acknowledged AN AMERICAN FAMILY as the first reality television series and named it among "The 50 Greatest Shows of All Time" in the 50th anniversary issue. Lance, the eldest son of the family, was the first real homosexual person to appear on television as an integral member of American family life.
