From the Factories to the Frontlines: Our Stories of WWII

A New Local Documentary from WGBY

woman working in a factory during WWIIThis program is an effort to preserve some of the stories of World War Two.  Interviews with veterans, factory workers, historians and entertainers will help tell the story of how this region as well as this country was galvanized during the greatest and deadliest war of all time.  Archival photographs and film of actual battle scenes will also be included in this one hour documentary.

One of the veterans interviewed is Milt Berman who grew up in Holyoke and now lives in Connecticut.  Berman, who flew a P-47 Thunderbolt in the war, recalls being stationed in England on June 6, 1944 at age 21 …

"We woke up very early this was about 3:30 in the morning, we had a battle breakfast of steak and eggs, then we went to our various airplanes, took off, formed our squadrons and went to Normandy…."

A WWII factory workerFrancis Gagnon of Springfield recalls being three or four years old and seeing her Uncle return home from the war.

" …the door opened. and my uncle Stanley walked in the door. and I can still see it. and my grandmother stopped.  she was at the sink. and she stopped. and she just became so thrilled, so incredibly thrilled I never saw her so happy."

Premiering in September, From the Factories to the Frontlines promises to stir some emotions and help preserve some of the greatest stories of all time.
