high school students sharpen their wits again as WGBY and Westfield
State College team-up to present As
Schools Match Wits, Wednesdays at 7:30pm on
WGBY.
Produced at the studios of Westfield State College and broadcast on
WGBY, As Schools Match Wits delivers all of the fun of
the classic high school quiz-show and introduces a new generation
of high-school students to one of the few public competitions that
stresses knowledge over physical ability.
And remember, if you can’t watch on Wednesdays the show repeats on
Saturdays at 7pm. If you want to share an episode with a family member or
friend, you’re in luck: every episode of Wits will be available ON
DEMAND to Comcast and Time Warner digital cable subscribers in Massachusetts.

Program Host: Beth Ward
Award-winning journalist Beth Ward covered hundreds of stories and conducted thousands of interviews during her 17-year career in television news. As an anchor and reporter in Washington, DC and in Springfield, MA she has covered everything from Presidents and the Clinton White House to city hall, from Capitol Hill to community events. Beth also spent several years as a Health Reporter during a critical time when the health care crisis in the United States started to take shape.
Beth holds a Bachelor’s degree from Western New England College in Springfield, Massachusetts. During her college career, The American University invited Beth to attend its prestigious Washington Semester Journalism Program. She also participated in a political science program at Georgetown University where she also served as an intern for then Congressman Edward Boland.
Beth began her television news career as a producer for the morning news at WFSB TV3 in Hartford, Connecticut. She then moved to WWLP TV22 in Springfield, Massachusetts eventually becoming a full time reporter at the NBC affiliate. After four years, Beth moved to Washington, DC where she worked as a reporter and anchor at CNN, FOX NEWS NETWORK, WUSA, Newschannel 8 and WJLA. During this time, along with her reporting and anchoring duties, Beth was proud to co-host a local morning television talk show showcasing positive people and stories in the Washington, DC area.
However, after six years in the Nation’s Capital, Beth and her family decided to come back home to Massachusetts where she spent the next ten years as an anchor/reporter at WGGB, the Springfield ABC affiliate. Beth filled many roles at WGGB, anchoring every show during her tenure, from the morning, noon, the early evening at the 11 p.m. broadcasts.
Beth left WGGB in 2004 to start her own Public Relations and consulting business. She continues to own and operate Ward Public Relations today.
Beth and her husband reside in East Longmeadow, Massachusetts with their two children.
