Juan-Carlos Vizcarra is one of my winemaking heroes. He took over his family’s winery in 1991 and has taken it to a level I’m sure his ancestors never dreamed possible. Now his estate in Ribera Del Duero Spain is turning out very exciting wines, year after year, and the 2006 J-C Vizcarra is perhaps the best $20 bottle in America right now. Loaded with raspberry fruit and splendid chocolate flavors, this ripe and bright wine has both the body and the acidity to match the exotic, spirited flavor of Berkshire grown Lamb.
