Henry Needham Flynt and Helen Geier FlyntCelebrating a Regional Treasure

Each year, thousands of visitors come to Historic Deerfield to see its collection of 18th and 19th century houses and the Flynt Center of Early American Life, filled with some of the great decorative arts treasures of early America.

WGBY recognizes this regional treasure on its 50th anniversary with A Celebration of Historic Deerfield, a live, three-hour broadcast. Highlights include a brand new WGBY production entitled, Celebrating Historic Deerfield, Massachusetts, which offers a beautiful video portrait of this 330 year-old village along with insight into the people dedicated to preserving it.

The broadcast also salutes Historic Deerfield Executive Director, Donald Friary. Mr. Friary has been with the museum for 37 years and served as its executive director for the past 27 years. He leaves his post on January 1, 2003 to become director emeritus and senior research fellow.

Leigh and Leslie Keno participated in the Historic Deerfield Summer Fellowship program, an opportunity that paved the way for their now-famous work as connoisseurs of early American furniture. "It's a combination of having incredible buildings, incredible architecture inside," observed Leigh Keno,"and this living breathing, pulsing feeling about the place that makes Deerfield special."
