Where western New England comes to learn.

WGBY’s Learn What You Can View, Read, AND Do!

Learning TriangleThrough a partnership with Springfield Day Nursery and the Springfield Republican, WGBY regularly offers a new View, Read, and Do theme of activities, books, and shows to experience with your family.  Whether you’re a parent, grand parent, child care provider, aunt, uncle, or family friend: you are an educator and a valuable asset for your child to learn how to read and grow!

Each theme offers books, activities, and WGBY public television programming which applies to the weekly theme.  Each learning triangle activity is designed to have multiple activities designed to increase your child’s opportunity to learn about their world.  Whether it’s fairy tales, the ocean, or music and sound: check back often for a new activity idea!

This Week's Topic: Dinosaurs!

Here are a few ideas on what programs to watch, activities to do, and books to check out at your local library!

READ!

"Patrick's Dinosaur " by Carol Carrick

"Dinosaur Bones " by Aliki

"How Do Dinosaurs Get Well Soon? " by Jane Yolen

DO!

  • Talk about big dinosaur words like paleontologist, predator, prey, fossil, extinct, carnivores (meat eaters), herbivores (plant eaters), and omnivores (plant and meat eaters). Ask you child what question(s) he/she wishes he/she could ask a real dinosaur and what he/she would tell a dinosaur about life on Earth today.
  • Visit your local museum for the latest on dinosaur exhibitions. The Springfield Science Museum hosts a great Dinosaur Hall that you could try!
  • Get messy in the dirt and have your own archeological dig. Use shovels, pails, rakes, and brushes to uncover what's underground. Set aside all of your amazing findings, maybe even create a small display for other family members to see!
