About the WGBY Lending Library

WGBY’s video lending library provides western Massachusetts educators with a comprehensive selection of over 1400 video titles that can be borrowed FREE.

The process is easy! Browse our library database online and select the video title or titles you wish to borrow. Titles are loaned for a three-week period, and you may borrow up to three video titles at any one time. Fill out the form indicating the titles you wish and include your phone number and email address. When we receive your request, a library aide will contact you via email and let you know if the titles are available, when they will be sent out, and how they will be delivered.

We distribute our tapes to most locations within western Massachusetts through the Western Massachusetts Regional Library Delivery Service, who either drops off the borrowed tapes at your school or a school library or public library close to you.

As a borrower, you’re responsible for returning the tapes within the loan period, either through the same service that delivered the tapes to you, by dropping them off at our lobby at 44 Hampden St., Springfield, or through the U.S. Postal Service.

Frequently Asked Questions

What geographic area do you serve?
Borrowers are generally limited to Hampden, Hampshire, Franklin and Berkshire counties.

Who is eligible to borrow?
Teachers, Library Specialists, Home-schooling parents and other educators in western Massachusetts are eligible to use this free loan service.

How long can I keep a borrowed title?
The loan period for each title is three weeks. In some cases this can be extended, such as when a holiday falls within the loan period. Email us and discuss the situation with a library aide.

Do I have to pay a fine of I’m late returning a tape?
We impose no fines, but ask your consideration for your fellow educators. Late tapes deny others from taking advantage of this free and valuable educational service. Many educators rely on the availability of titles that have been integrated into their curriculum to be available within their time frame.

How many titles can I borrow at a time?
In order to make our collection available to as many educators as possible, we limit the number of tapes that can be borrowed at any one time to three.

What if a tape is lost or damaged?
We ask anyone who borrows our free video titles to use care in their handling, but sometimes tapes and DVDs get misplaced or damaged. In those cases, please email us and let us know so that we can either order a replacement or delete the title from our database.

Do I have to come to your station to get or return my tape?
WGBY distributes tapes through the Western Massachusetts Regional Library Delivery Service (WMRLDS). The van picks up tapes from our station once a week and delivers to many schools and public libraries throughout western Massachusetts. If your school or town isn’t on their route, we will work with you to find a town nearby that is on the WMRLDS distribution route. Some schools in larger towns distribute within their own school district. Tapes are returned to us via the same service, but you can always return a tape to us through the U.S. Postal Service.

What if I need my tape sooner than the WMRLDS will deliver?
Tapes can always be picked up at our lobby which is open Monday through Friday, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Our building is located at 44 Hampden St., Springfield. Free parking is behind the building on E. Columbus Ave.
