Behind the Scenes PhotoArea high school students sharpen their wits again as WGBY and Westfield State College team-up to present As Schools Match Wits, Saturdays at 7pm on WGBY.

Produced at the studios of Westfield State College and broadcast on WGBY, As Schools Match Wits delivers all of the fun of the classic high school quiz-show and introduces a new generation of high-school students to one of the few public competitions that stresses knowledge over physical ability.

And remember, if you can’t watch on Saturdays or want to share an episode with a family member or friend, you’re in luck: every episode of Wits will be available ON DEMAND to Comcast and Time Warner digital cable subscribers in Massachusetts.

Full episodes are also available by video Podcast!

Chris Rohmann, hostMeet the Host

As Schools Match Wits host Chris Rohmann is a writer, teacher, critic and radio personality with a broad background in the arts, journalism and the world of ideas. He is an adjunct faculty member at the Pioneer Valley Performing Arts Charter High School (PVPA) in South Hadley, has been the theater critic for 88.5 WFCR since 2001 and contributes regularly to the Valley Advocate.

A director as well as critic, he has staged plays at the Hampshire Shakespeare Company, PVPA and elsewhere.  He is also the grants coordinator for New World Theater, the multicultural theater based at the University of Massachusetts Fine Arts Center.

His book, A World of Ideas: A Dictionary of Important Theories, Concepts, Beliefs, and Thinkers was published by Ballantine Books in 1999.

"I'm absolutely thrilled to be part of a show with such a long history and near-legendary reputation in this area," Rohmann said.  "I love working with teen-agers and am curious about a lot of different topics, so I'm sure we'll be learning from each other."

A native of Ohio, Rohmann came to Western Massachusetts after living for ten years in London, where - "in a previous life," as he puts it - he worked as a musician, recording three albums of his own songs, writing a British Top Ten hit single, and winning the Fringe First Award at the Edinburgh Festival. He now lives in South Hadley.
